Charlton Ath v Tranmere R Preview
Charlton Ath v Tranmere R Preview

Charlton entertain Tranmere this weekend looking to cement their place at the top of League One.

Tranmere have had to cancel their supporters’ coach due to lack of demand. Rovers have appealed to any fans travelling to the game by car, to make any spare seats available to those who had booked coach travel. The action forced upon Tranmere shows just how tough things are at the moment.

The men from the Wirral made a bright start to the season but are finding things harder now. Les Parry may decide that a defensive formation, inviting his opponents to attack, then hit them on the break, is his best option.

Chris Powell will be anxious for his side to put Wednesday’s disappointing performance behind them and return to winning ways. Clubs are required to field six of the eleven players who have made the most appearances, or six who started the previous game, or six who will start the next in JPT matches. Charlton only started with five regulars which may be an indication that Danny Green will replace Scott Wagstaff on the right side of midfield.

Other than that, Powell is likely to stick with the team that has served him so well, though there will be an enforced change on the bench. Leon Cort is still on World Cup duty with Guyana so Gary Doherty could come in. Powell may start with this team:

Hamer; Solly, Taylor, Morrison, Wiggins; Green, Stephens, Hollands, Jackson; Hayes, Wright-Phillips.

Subs: Sullivan, Doherty, Hughes, Wagstaff, Kermorgant.

Darren Drysdale from Lincolnshire will be the referee.

This is a game where the Addicks may have to be patient, as they probe for an opening, but they should have enough in their locker to secure the three points.
